The Raw Food Diet and Hydration
One piece of advice that nearly every weight loss diet advocates is to drink plenty of water. This is usually correct but in the case of your raw food diet you could find that you do not need to do this. There are a number of simple reasons for this.
The Raw Food Diet and Salt Reduction
A move to eating lots of raw food will probably see you reduce your salt intake by a huge amount. Most processed and cooked foods contain large portions of added salt to them. By making this reduction in salt consumption you will find that you are not as thirsty as you have been in the past.
The Raw Food Diet, Caffeine and Alcohol
Caffeine and alcohol can cause people to dehydrate. There is no reason to drink caffeine as the alternatives taste just as good. As you get established on your raw food diet you will reduce your alcohol intake or indeed stop completely. By doing this you will find that you will not need to drink as much.
Raw Food Contains More Liquid
Fresh fruit and vegetables contain high levels of liquid and will hydrate your body naturally so that you should find that you can drink less in the form of glasses of water.
Now there is nothing wrong in drinking a refreshing glass of water. But what I have found is that the craving for water (or a drink) has reduced to manageable proportions. People who are on the edge of having diabetes type 2 or who do in fact have it often suffer from this urgent desire for a drink.

Great site!! Tonya Zavasta talks about this quite a bit, actually. She tells how she thinks a lot of raw foodist still drink too much water because of their conventional/SAD food conditioning…
Refreshing post! I’ll definitely be checking back for more, because you really know your stuff!
People tend to over do their water intake. It’s possible to drink so much water that the vitimins and nutrients that someone takes in gets washed out of their system before it has a chance to do any good.
Good post, Thanks!
This is so interesting! I suppose it does make sense that you don’t need to drink as much water (especially after reading your reasons why!) but it still is surprising!
