This Is Embarrasing – I Failed On 100% Raw Food Diet!

I have been on a 100% raw food diet now for 5 days. This is a bit of a detox before going on my holiday next month. I also want to lose a few lbs that have been creeping on this year. So I decided that a good 100% raw food diet based around fruit and vegetables would do me good for a week.

Well today has been a real problem. As the author of this site and a number of online books on health and healthy eating I thought about keeping quiet. Then I thought it might be helpful for readers to see how difficult it is to maintain a completely raw diet. The program I have been following gives you all the nutrients and vitamins you need. At the same time you can lose up to 7 lbs in a week on it. As someone who has eaten healthily for a few years now I did not expect any problems.

What I think I did not allow for is that I have an incredibly active life. I work long hours and some of my work is very physical. Today I found that the room was spinning around me and that I could hardly stand up for fear of falling down again. As I have to work I cannot be done with this.

So I am back to my normal 60% – 70% raw food diet which I know works for me. I do wonder how people survive on vegan and very restrictive diets. I think this is the level that is right for me and my body. You should always listen to your body. I would encourage you to find your own level and try things out. Start with 50% raw and go up if you find you are not having any problems.

    I did the raw diet over a year ago, and planned to do it for 14 days. I ended up sticking to it for 12, but in those 12 days I lost 12 pounds! I was amazed!! I felt great, not weak at all. I made sure to make it fun, and eat as much as I want- I hate feeling hungry on a diet, so this was great for me.

    I’m now doing it again, as I have let my weight get out of control with my new job. The first time I tried this, I worked at a hospital, so there was a huge food court/cafeteria downstairs with a humungous salad bar with tons of options. Now that I am in an office, it is a little harder to have to pack everything. We’ll see how it goes! I hope to stick to it for 15 days, then ease into grilled chicken and fish.
